Program
The Aquatic Weed School 2008 is an intensive two-day course focusing on issues associated with developing weed management strategies in a variety of aquatic ecosystems. The course covers ecological classification, biology and impacts of aquatic weeds, physical and mechanical control methods, biological and chemical controls, and surfactants. Water management, and restoration and sustainable ecosystem management are also covered. These topics are presented in a lecture format. Laboratory activities focus on aquatic weed identification.
The course will also touch upon regulatory issues concerned with prevention strategies, updates on the Aquatic Nuisance Species State Plan and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permitting Program, and endangered species.
The course is designed for those involved in consulting, research, and management of aquatic weed systems throughout the western United States. Each participant will receive a comprehensive notebook with lecture notes and additional information. The Aquatic Weed School 2008 provides a rare opportunity for professionals to efficiently update their understanding of aquatic weeds and interact with experts in this field.
