Aquatic Weed School
  Fall, 2010
UC Davis

Scheduled during the Fall of even-numbered years

The Aquatic Weed School is an intensive two-day course focusing on issues associated with developing weed management strategies in a variety of aquatic ecosystems.

The first day will cover the impacts of aquatic weeds, the physical and chemical characteristics related to flowing and non-flowing aquatic systems, the identification, biology, and ecology of aquatic weeds, as well as their interaction with other organisms and strategies to prevent aquatic weed infestations. We will also examine the mode of action of herbicides registered for use in aquatic systems.

On the second day, we will discuss the management of aquatic weeds and the decision making process for selection of the appropriate control option in large lakes and reservoirs, small ponds and aquascapes, flowing systems, special circumstances and emergent and riparian weed control.

In addition, the course will also cover regulatory issues concerned with water rights, permits, and management impacts on fish and wildlife.

The school is designed for those involved in consulting, research, and management of aquatic weed systems throughout the western United States. These topics are presented in a lecture format. Lecture notes will be provided in a comprehensive notebook.

The course fee includes all course materials and lunch each day. Class size is limited so early enrollment is suggested.

Day 1 will be in session from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; Day 2 will be in session from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The course will be held on the UC Davis campus.
